Sleep Cycles Release New Single Featuring Fred Mascherino
Collegeville, Pennsylvania alt-rockers Sleep Cycles have just released a new single titled "Come On and Say It" (feat. Fred Mascherino).
The band says, "“Come On and Say It” is a song about lamenting a lost relationship with someone who was so close to you, yet as you grew up you grew apart. More importantly, is the POV of judgment that reigns over the lyrics as you disagree with someone’s growth or change in life. The chorus aggressively repeats the phrase “come on and say it”, an inner loop of hope for what once was against what is. That moment you pray the other person reaches out first to finally see eye to eye, dancing with resentful remorse unapologetically. The song’s explosive end chorus expresses everything you wish they said but never did."
Sleep Cycles' mix of melodramatic emo and punk influences drive their songwriting styles as “big, fast and heavy”. Sleep Cycles came together in the summer of 2019 as lead singer/guitarist Chris Newhard began writing with bassist Chris Poulsen, who met each other while playing in Philadelphia-based band, Promise of Redemption. Poulsen, whose resume also includes Tokyo Rose, The Color Fred and Secondhand Serenade, felt the ideas were worth exploring more so they agreed to search for another guitar player. Their search landed on Stephen Morrell, former lead guitarist for Philadelphia-based pop-punk veterans An Honest Year, who Newhard had met previously working with them as their music video director. The three immediately clicked and began churning out demo after demo as the ideas flowed.
After several months of trying out various drummers, Morrell’s old friend and former An Honest Year drummer, Greg Pinney, became available and interested in playing. On the night that everyone met up to play together for the first time, it was apparent that the group was complete. They immediately began writing their first songs together as a full group and the dynamic pulse of the songs shifted into full gear. Musically, their influences range from The Menzingers and The Dangerous Summer to The Early November, Seaway, The Used and Taking Back Sunday.
In January 2020, Sleep Cycles began recording at Diver Down Studios with producer Fred Mascherino of The Color Fred and formerly of Taking Back Sunday. Once the songs were tracked, the mix and masters were handed off to mixing artist extraordinaire Paul Leavitt, who previously worked with All Time Low, The Dangerous Summer, Yellowcard, The Used and many others. Leavitt brought the final piece of the puzzle to their sound with his production knowledge and experience.
On January 1st, 2021, Sleep Cycles released their first single “The Eighty-Eight” and a subsequent music video for the song, directed by Newhard. Later on in May 2021, their follow-up single “Blister” was released and featured Shane Henderson of Valencia & Promise of Redemption on vocals. In Sept 2021, the third single “Come On And Say It” will be released featuring Fred Mascherino’s singing as well. Sleep Cycles will be releasing new music each month until year's end as well as performing throughout the northeast to promote the release of their upcoming EP in January 2022.
